Three years ago, a team from Timberline went to Prague to help with the construction of a Teen Challenge center in cooperation with Chris Oakley, one of our missionary partners. This team spent a week renovating a building that was over 800 years old to open a new women’s center to house girls coming off the streets and out of drug addiction. Before they left, the team gave a study Bible, that had just been translated for the first time into the Czech language, to each of the students being served and were overwhelmed by their grateful response.
One team member, Randy Bruxfort, was so impacted by the trip and the Teen Challenge program that he has continued to send money to Chris Oakley every month to provide Bibles for new Teen Challenge students as they come into the program off the streets. New Bibles are not just provided at the Prague center, but also at another Teen Challenge center in the Czech Republic.
Recently, Chris Oakley forwarded a few pictures of students receiving their Bibles. The director of the National Teen Challenge Office in the Czech Republic wrote, “It is a great blessing for us to have money to buy and give away those Bibles. One student said, ‘It is my second day in the program and this is the first Bible I have in my life. I have always wanted to have my own Bible and now I have received it. It is a miracle that God has done for me….’ Really thank you for making this happen.”
In addition to forwarding the funds to make this important part of the Teen Challenge ministry happen, Chris Oakley’s ministry in Central Europe has focused on building churches and Bible schools and coordinating the labor of short-term missions teams, like the team from Timberline Church in 2010.
We were blessed to have Chris Oakley with us during our Missions Celebration last month since his family is currently in the United States raising support to meet their budget for another term. Once they return to the mission field, they will focus their attention primarily on the Czech Republic working with Teen Challenge ministries, the Gypsy people, a church plant, and a potential coffee house.
Timberline Church continues to financially and prayerfully support the work of Chris Oakley and Teen Challenge in Central Europe. For more information about Chris, his family, their ministry, and how you can support them, see his blog at http://buildinghiskingdom.blogspot.com.
